Safety at the workplace is the foremost objective of the workers as the risk factor associated with it is quite high. Undoubtedly, the workers working at such risky spots are well trained, yet accidents may occur. It is the moral as well as the legal responsibility of the construction companies to provide safety to the workers. The safe roof access system is the biggest step taken by them.
Fall protection system or the height safety system is designed as per the guidelines of OSHA. There is a set of fall protection standard which should be followed while designing the fall protection system. Still, there are certain misconceptions among the people, construction industries and workers that often lead them into a wrong scenario. No matter whichever is the type of safe roof access system, one should know what result is availed by such installation.
Common myths and facts about the safe roof access system
It is none of my responsibilities and priorities: Whether it is the contractors, building owners, designers or sub-contractors, safety at height is everyone’s responsibility. Not only morally but it is legal to provide safe and secure protection to the workers working at heights or the places where the risk factor is quite high. No matter whatever the type of work for whichever person is, providing a safe workplace is compulsory and the foremost priority of the owner of that place.
Height safety is all about safe roof access: Safety at a height does not necessarily correspond to the roof access. The safe roof access system is even installed in such places where the risk factor is overloaded. These necessarily include working at the roof edge, roof pitch or such spots which can collapse anytime. Thus, even a confined space requires a safety system so that workers might not work with the fear of fall.
It would take a few minutes to install, hence fall protection is not required: When the height of the working place is up to six feet, no safe roof access system is required. However, even a point beyond that surely requires the fall protection. Whether the installation work is of few seconds or lasts for hours, fall protection system should be installed as mentioned by OSHA. However, there are some exceptions which include when the person is investigating, inspecting, or assessing the conditions of the workplace, no such systems are required.
Training programs with respect to fall protection aren’t essential: As per the guidelines of OSHA, it is compulsory to provide training to the employees who would approach the hazardous workplace. The training generally includes the type of fall, measures to be taken to prevent a fatal fall, the role of the employees in safety monitoring systems, correct procedures of how to handle the fall protection system is also important.
Cheap safe roof access system is better: Fall protection system is not the part where you should cut your expenses. A cheap option can be dangerous due to the sudden breakdown of the parts. Moreover, cutting the cost of installing a fall protection system is not a valid point as any mishap due to defaults in the parts can be subject to legal obligations.
Safety at a risky place is important and it is the responsibility of the employers to provide a safe working environment to the workers. It will not only enhance the functionality and efficiency of the worker but will also keep you away from the problems in long run. Thus, choose an appropriate fall protection system so that major injuries and fatalities can be prevented.
